In a chilling case out of California, a 49-year-old man is in custody, accused of murdering his 71-year-old father over a financial dispute. Alfred Juarez Jr. has been charged with multiple offenses, including murder, elder abuse resulting in significant harm, robbery, and carjacking. His alleged crimes have left him held without bail at the Kern County Jail, with a court appearance set for October 27.

The tragic event unfolded on the evening of October 13, when Bakersfield police were dispatched to a residence on the 6100 block of Chandler Way following a report of an unresponsive man. Upon arrival, officers discovered Alfred Juarez Sr. showing clear signs of having been assaulted. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities subsequently apprehended his son in Los Angeles County.

According to a probable cause arrest affidavit obtained by KGET, surveillance footage played a crucial role in the investigation. The video allegedly depicts Juarez Jr. following his father out of the house, violently bursting through a screen door, and striking his father in the head. This assault reportedly escalated to Juarez Jr. forcefully taking car keys from his father’s belt. The elder Juarez then clutched his chest and fell, while his son drove away in his vehicle.

In a subsequent police interview, Juarez Jr. reportedly claimed that his father owed him $5,000, prompting his visit to the home to reclaim a vehicle. He admitted to becoming agitated when his father asked him to leave, leading to the violent encounter. The affidavit further reveals that Juarez Jr. showed no remorse, despite knowing his father had a history of heart problems and was in frail health.

This grim narrative underscores the devastating impact of familial tensions and financial disputes, culminating in a loss that has shaken the local community.

During an interview, the younger Juarez reportedly said his father owed him $5,000, so he showed up to the home to take his vehicle. The suspect said he became upset when his dad told him to leave, and he said he went inside the home to “finish the job,” per the affidavit. The suspect also reportedly said he knew the elder Juarez had a history of heart attacks and was in poor health. He had no remorse for his actions, he allegedly added.

Juarez Jr. reportedly made similar statements after an alleged assault caused the victim to have a heart attack in 2020.
