How Sean Bean finally found the one after four doomed marriages

One might be tempted to roll their eyes at the sight of the dashing Sean Bean and his radiant bride, captured in a tasteful black-and-white photograph shortly after their intimate wedding. The bride, stunning in an Alice Temperley gown, stood beside Bean, who seemed every bit the contented groom.

Against the picturesque backdrop of Dorset’s rolling countryside, the wedding took place at West Axnoller Farm in 2017. Only 40 of their closest friends and family members were present to witness the acclaimed actor exchange vows with Ashley Moore. The setting, steeped in romance, recalled scenes from classic films, yet this was Bean’s fifth walk down the aisle, perhaps a final step towards lasting marital bliss.

A glimmer of hope for a happy future was evident when, shortly after the ceremony, a spokesperson told the Daily Mail, “It was a gathering of close family and friends. Anna Friel attended, as she’s currently co-starring with Sean in ‘Broken.'”

The spokesperson added, “Anna’s daughter, Gracie, took part as a bridesmaid and serenaded the couple with a rendition of Elvis’s ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love,’ accompanying herself on guitar as Ashley made her way down the aisle. The gathering was small, intimate, with no more than forty guests.”

“Sean is absolutely thrilled,” the spokesperson continued. “I’ve never seen him so in love and committed. He and Ashley are genuinely sweet together.”

‘He’s super happy , I’ve never seen him in so in love and committed and happy with Ashley. They’re very sweet together.’

The Sheffield-born star, 66, originally met Moore – aged 40 and 26 years his junior – at favoured watering hole The Cobden Arms in Camden, some five years earlier.

‘She was in there with friends and I came in with my friend and it was just a chance meeting,” he told The Times of that first meeting with his wife, an American actress and trained dancer who once starred in Grange Hill.

‘I used to go in there now and again, but it was the first time she’d ever been in. We kind of hit it off. She’s full of life. Exuberant. Very positive energy.’

The couple were swiftly engaged in 2014 – familiar territory for Bean, of course, whose four previous attempts at marriage had been brutally short lived.

Luckily for the actor, his new fiancée was mercifully sympathetic, understanding even, when informed of a convoluted marital history that even he admits is excessive.

‘When I look back myself I’m like, ‘F***ing hell, that’s quite a few marriages there,”‘ he said.

‘I’ve obviously experienced more marriages than most people… I suppose there is that romantic in me, otherwise I wouldn’t keep doing it.

‘But I don’t regret anything. I’d live it all again.’

Their marriage lasted seven years and soon after their split, the star confirmed he was dating actress Abigail Cruttenden, who he met on the set of ITV series Sharpe.

It was third time lucky for Bean, who married Cruttenden in November 1997. Their daughter Evie was born the following year; however, they would separate when the child was just a few months old.

The pair met five years previously in 2003 when she was managing the bar at a West End theatre where Bean was playing Macbeth.

They shared a house in Belsize Park, north London, but are thought to have separated during the first year of their marriage before reuniting. Two years later they divorced, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’.

In 2011 the actor said that he had finally given up on marriage, claiming he preferred spending his time gardening.

He told Croatian magazine Gloria: ‘Of course I believe in love despite four divorces. There is nobody who doesn’t believe in love.

‘But marriage – that fits some people but obviously not me.’

It all begs the question, is his fifth wife the one? As it stands she’s survived the longest, with the couple now celebrating eight years of marriage and showing little or no signs of strain.

Speaking to the Daily Mail’s Girl About Town in 2016, the Game Of Thrones star admitted he was hesitant about the prospect of exchanging vows after four failed marriages.

But his attitude soon changed after meeting Moore, who was by his side as he promoted new TV show Robin Hood in Los Angeles on Tuesday evening.

‘I wasn’t planning on getting married again, but then I wasn’t planning on meeting someone as amazing as Ashley,’ he told the Daily Mail’s Girl About Town.

‘I can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together.’
