GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Authorities have arrested 24-year-old Sebastian Emmanuel Vargas, charging him with domestic aggravated battery after he allegedly stabbed his girlfriend.
Just before dawn on September 30, Gainesville Police and EMS rushed to an apartment located near the 1100 block of SW 6th Street. Upon their arrival, the victim recounted a harrowing incident where, after expressing her intention to end their relationship, Vargas reportedly threw her to the ground and stabbed her in the chest. Officers noted that she sustained a laceration between 2 to 3 inches on her torso.
The victim was promptly taken to a hospital for medical care. Meanwhile, Vargas fled the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement, leading to an arrest warrant being issued on October 9.
Vargas now faces charges of domestic aggravated battery using a deadly weapon. While he has no prior criminal convictions, there is an outstanding felony arson warrant for him in Suwannee County. Judge Adam Lee has ordered Vargas to be held without bail until a hearing can address a State Attorney’s motion to keep him detained until trial. Should the motion be denied, bail will be determined at that time.
Note: Articles concerning arrests are compiled from law enforcement reports. The charges referenced originate from arrest documents and/or court files and remain allegations. All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
