ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — In an effort to curb illegal e-bike usage on city streets, St. Petersburg police intensified their enforcement efforts Thursday night. Officers handed out 24 citations to a group of more than 50 individuals riding near the downtown area.

This group had previously been in communication with the police department and believed they were complying with regulations. However, Thursday night’s events proved otherwise. Over the past two weeks, three fatalities involving e-bike riders have occurred in the city, with police attributing the accidents to rider error. Consequently, law enforcement is now closely monitoring e-bike activity.
