GAINESVILLE, Fla. – On Sunday, Skylar Andrew Stone, aged 43, found himself in legal trouble after allegedly using a golf club to threaten another panhandler during a disagreement over lane selection. He now faces charges of aggravated assault.

At approximately 11 a.m. on October 19, deputies from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 7300 block of West Newberry Road. This response followed a 911 call from a concerned passerby who reported witnessing a man brandishing a golf club in a threatening manner. The caller provided a detailed description of the suspect wielding the club.

Upon arrival, deputies reportedly encountered Stone standing next to the victim, clutching a golf club, and projecting an “agitated and hostile” demeanor towards the other man.

The victim explained that their discussion about lane choices for panhandling had escalated into a heated argument. During the altercation, Stone allegedly retrieved a golf club from his belongings and raised it in a threatening manner.

Stone, however, reportedly claimed that he brandished the golf club in self-defense. Contrarily, witnesses at the scene suggested that Stone was, in fact, the instigator of the confrontation.

Stone, whose address is listed as GRACE Marketplace, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He has one felony conviction (non-violent) and seven misdemeanor convictions (non-violent), and Judge Jonathan Ramsey set bail at $10,000 and ordered that he be screened for Mental Health Court.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
