In Kingsport, Tennessee, a unique event unfolded on Saturday as fifteen local churches came together to shower blessings upon the city’s pets and their owners. The gathering, aptly named “Blessing of the Animals,” took place at Borden Park.
Pets showed off their Halloween costumes, posing for complimentary family portraits. The event also featured face painting, while balloon artists entertained with their creative twists and turns.
Pastor Melissa Malcolm from St. Matthew Methodist Church emphasized the purpose of the event, highlighting the importance of recognizing “God’s creation,” with animals being integral members of families.
“What we aim for is hope and unity,” Pastor Malcolm expressed. “In a world rife with challenges and division, love for our families and pets is a common ground. We uphold the belief that all of creation holds value, and by honoring our pets, we bring the community together.”
The event also included a charitable drive, collecting donations of cat and dog food to support local animal shelters.
