The father of a young boy who tragically lost his life in the foyer of a Queensland police station following a car accident will continue to be held in custody after his bail application was denied.

Twenty-four-year-old Samuel Ian Paterson is accused of being in the vehicle with three-year-old Caden Case, the child’s mother, and another young child when the car accident occurred near Stapylton, on the Gold Coast.

The heartbreaking incident unfolded when the white Mazda, allegedly driven by Paterson, lost control and careened into the bushland around 5 a.m. on Saturday, leading to Caden’s untimely death.

Authorities allege that Paterson was driving with Caden’s 22-year-old mother and a one-year-old child as passengers during the crash.

Following the accident, Paterson allegedly left the scene with the other child, prompting an extensive search by police.

Law enforcement officers eventually found Paterson and the child at a townhouse complex in nearby Beenleigh.

Meanwhile, Caden – who was critically injured – and his mother were taken to Beenleigh Police Station by a passerby.

Caden died at the police station from his injuries.
