In a significant development, four teenage girls have admitted to their involvement in the death of a mother-of-two, opting for a guilty plea just before their murder trial was set to commence. The incident unfolded during a violent altercation.

Authorities were called to the scene in Warrawong, a suburb of Wollongong, at approximately 6:30 p.m. on November 22, 2023, following reports of a large fight.

Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered 39-year-old Kristie McBride with severe stab wounds. She was immediately transported to Wollongong Hospital, where she remained in critical condition.

Tragically, McBride succumbed to her injuries 10 days later, leaving behind two children.

The four teenagers, aged between 16 and 17, were initially charged with murder. However, as proceedings were about to begin in the NSW Supreme Court, they entered guilty pleas to the reduced charge of manslaughter.

They were all due to face the NSW Supreme Court today for the first day of their trial, but they pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

When they were asked how they pleaded, the girls each replied they were not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter.

The teenagers will face a sentence hearing in December before learning their fate next year.

When court adjourned, they chatted amongst themselves and exchanged small smiles.

The two younger girls will remain living in the community on bail while the older teens are in custody.
