Sydney Sweeney took the internet by storm on Tuesday night after her unexpected appearance during Fox’s pregame World Series coverage.

The Hollywood star surprised millions of viewers across the United States by narrating the introduction to Game 4 just moments before it kicked off.

With a striking Marilyn Monroe-esque blonde bob and a vibrant red dress, the actress worked to energize the audience. However, her performance didn’t resonate with everyone.

One viewer remarked, “Sydney Sweeney’s World Series hype spot delivery is stiffer than a baseball bat.”

Another simply stated, “Please remove Sydney Sweeney from my World Series screen.”

The backlash was not unforeseen, as some commentators quickly noted they had expected such a reaction from the outset.

‘Every liberal watching the World Series just lost their s*** when Sydney Sweeney showed up. Gotta love it,’ one said.

Another wrote: ‘Get ready for the liberal meltdown. Should be good for a laugh.’

In the surprise appearance, Sweeney talked up the game in the soft voice she has become famous for in recent years.

‘Given the setting,’ she began, as the camera revealed her in her red dress, ‘it would be appropriate to dust the story with movie magic, right? Why not romanticize a bit?’

The camera then pans out to show Sweeney full-length, walking onto set while continuing to narrate.

‘Winning… real winning, isn’t polished,’ she continues shortly after. ‘It’s earned. It’s everything you can’t fake. It’s beautiful on its own.

‘Let’s just save the Hollywood for the ending. Welcome to Game 4 of the World Series on Fox.’

Sweeney has been in the headlines a lot this year, most notably causing controversy when she fronted an American Eagle ad campaign for jeans in July.

Many criticized the ad’s pun about ‘good jeans’ and ‘good genes’, with some even going as far as to suggest it echoed the language of eugenics.

‘Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color,’ Sydney said in the commercial. ‘My jeans are blue.’

The genes/jeans wordplay caused controversy in the context of the blonde-haired, blue-eyed Sweeney with some claiming the campaign was the equivalent to ‘Nazi propaganda’ and veered towards white supremacy.

Columbia University lecturer Sayantani DasGupta said the campaign was ‘really imbued with eugenic messaging’ and that the pun couldn’t be separated from the history of racial and genetic superiority narratives.

On the other side of the argument, many railed against the ‘woke mob’ and dismissed the furor.

Sweeney’s appearance on the biggest sporting stage comes as she promotes her latest movie, in which she plays boxer Christie Martin.

The Hollywood production – which is released on November 7 – tells the story of Martin’s life in the sport, alongside her struggles outside it.

The incredible true-life story builds towards a dramatic conclusion in which she is stabbed, shot and left for dead by her husband.
