A tragic incident unfolded in Atlanta’s upscale Buckhead district early Thursday morning, where a father faces murder charges following the fatal shooting of his son outside an apartment complex.

According to Atlanta Police, the situation began when a woman at the apartment complex dialed 911 to report a domestic argument with her boyfriend shortly after midnight, as reported by WAGA. Officers arrived on the scene and began questioning the couple. During this time, the woman’s boyfriend’s father showed up, and both men proceeded downstairs to the parking area.

Soon after, the sound of gunfire echoed, prompting the officers to rush to the scene.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered that 54-year-old Durante Tolliver had fatally shot his 32-year-old son, who was pronounced dead at the location.

The police suspect an altercation between the father and son escalated, leading Tolliver to discharge his weapon at least five times, as detailed by WUPA.

WSB investigators revealed that the girlfriend had reached out to Tolliver, seeking his intervention in the dispute with his son, identified as Durante Schofield.

Tolliver has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
