Discover Millikin's New Nutritious Food Market: A Healthy Eating Revolution Begins!

DECATUR, Ill. — Millikin University is set to celebrate the opening of its new nutritious food market with a ribbon-cutting ceremony this Friday.

As announced in a recent press release, the university has partnered with the Decatur Regional Chamber of Commerce to host the grand opening of the Millikin Market. The event is scheduled for Halloween at 2 p.m. at the Millikin University Athletics offices.

This new on-campus initiative is designed to address food insecurity and enhance student well-being by ensuring that all students have dependable access to nutritious food options.

The Millikin Market aims to meet students’ basic needs by providing them with free, healthy food choices, thus allowing them to focus on their academic and personal growth.

“University life presents many challenges, and access to nutritious food should not be one of them,” said Dr. Dean Pribbenow, President of Millikin University. “We are dedicated to ensuring that every student can concentrate on learning and community involvement without the concern of where their next meal will come from. The Millikin Market embodies this commitment.”

This market is looking to expand on the efforts of the former Big Blue Pantry, while building on strong partnerships with local organizations, including:

Northeast Community Fund
United Way of Decatur & Mid-Illinois
Tillamook
Refreshment Services Pepsi

This new resource is located in New Hall 2 at the university and officially opens to students on Tuesday, Nov. 4. The market will be open on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a Grab & Go Station available Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Millikin Market is free and available to all students who are not enrolled in the All-Access Meal Plan. No referral or appointment is required; all students need to bring is their Millikin ID.
