A young family south of Brisbane has been left traumatised after an armed man allegedly broke into their house twice in the same night.
The couple, who had only just moved into the Logan home with their five-month-old baby over the weekend, said it was a terrifying case of mistaken identity.

A young couple, still shaken from their ordeal, recounted a harrowing incident to 9News, choosing to remain anonymous due to the trauma they experienced last night.

Police allege the would-be robber fled but only made it 100 metres up the road before collapsing in a neighboring driveway. (9News)

“I believed our front door was secured, but unfortunately, it wasn’t because it doesn’t lock properly,” the father explained.

He described the frightening moment: “Someone shouted, ‘Oi,’ and suddenly, a man entered our home brandishing what looked like a rifle.”

The couple, desperate to protect their child, shouted that they had a baby in the house. The intruder eventually left around 10:10 p.m.

Despite boarding up their unit and notifying the police, the man allegedly returned around 1:05 a.m. the following morning.

“He forced his way in, smashing the glass door, and demanded to know about the previous tenant, asking for money and drugs,” the father claimed.

The mother was in another room with their child and said all she could hear was her partner screaming “There’s a baby in here, there’s a baby in here”.

“I feared for my life. I feared for my partner’s life,” she said.

“I’m just in there thinking, ‘Is my partner about to get shot to death, and I’m just gonna walk out to a dead body? Like, am I about to be a single mum, or am I about to have my baby orphaned?’”

Police allege the would-be robber fled but only made it 100 metres up the road before collapsing in a neighbouring driveway.

Officers allegedly found a gel blaster nearby and towed a Toyota Kluger from the scene.

The young couple are preparing to move back out.

“We’re just in our early 20s, like, first home, like living out of family, you know,” the mother said. “And I can’t have my baby around this.”

A 29-year-old Hillcrest man was charged with two counts each of attempted armed robbery and enter with intent and was expected to face Beenleigh Magistrates Court today.
