HEPHZIBAH, Ga. – AARP Georgia, collaborating with local groups and law enforcement, is organizing a complimentary event focused on fraud prevention this Saturday.
The event, known as “Scam Jam,” is scheduled for November 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will be held at the Diamond Lakes – Robert Howard Community Center, located at 103 Diamond Lakes Way in Hephzibah.
Participants will gain valuable insights into identifying and avoiding various scams that AARP notes are prevalent in Georgia. These include investment scams, online shopping deceptions, fraudulent classified ads, lottery and sweepstakes scams, tech support fraud, and romance scams. Additionally, there will be free on-site document shredding, allowing attendees to securely dispose of personal documents and reduce the risk of identity theft.
“Fraud poses an increasing threat that can affect anyone,” said Adrion Bell, a spokesperson for AARP Georgia. “By uniting as a community, we can increase awareness, share vital resources, and help residents stay one step ahead of scammers.”
Representatives from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Legal Services, SRP Federal Credit Union, Better Business Bureau, Richmond County Marshal’s Office, Area Agency on Aging, Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center, First Community Bank, and Oak Street Health Augusta are also expected to attend.
