A New Jersey man has been taken into custody following the fatal stabbing of a 41-year-old individual, an event being treated as a domestic dispute, according to prosecutors on Tuesday.
Late Monday night, officers from the Bayonne Police Department responded to a call regarding a disturbance on Meadow Street at approximately 10:20 p.m., as stated in a press release by Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello.
Upon arriving at the location, officers discovered a man, identified as Richard Arcos from Garfield, who had sustained an apparent stab wound.
Despite efforts to save him, Arcos was declared deceased within an hour. The exact cause and manner of death remain under investigation by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, Mello added.
Following a thorough investigation conducted by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit in collaboration with the Bayonne Police Department, 28-year-old Andrew Fuentes of Bayonne was arrested.
Authorities have yet to disclose further details concerning the nature of the stabbing or the relationship between the two men involved.
Arcos was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated manslaughter and related weapons offenses, including possession of a knife for an unlawful purpose, officials said.
The City of Bayonne, in Hudson County, is about 12 miles southwest of Midtown Manhattan.
