In a tragic and heart-wrenching case, a man from Indiana has confessed to the murder of his young son, following an investigation that uncovered a horrifying series of events. Franklin Elmore Jr., aged 29, previously claimed that his six-year-old son, Justin, had injured himself. However, he has now pleaded guilty to the charge of murder.

The grim incident occurred in August when Franklin and his wife, Cheyenne Elmore, 27, were taken into custody. The arrest followed the death of Justin, who succumbed to injuries inflicted during an attack by his father in the boy’s playroom. Both Franklin and Cheyenne faced murder charges, and it was last month that Franklin Elmore decided to enter a guilty plea.

During a courtroom appearance on October 9, reported by local NBC affiliate WNDU, Franklin Elmore admitted to the heinous act. When questioned about the incident, he confessed to beating his son and causing his death, although he insisted he “did not mean it.”

On the night of August 3, the Elmores dialed 911 after Justin became unresponsive following the assault. Initially, they told authorities that Justin had behavioral problems and would harm himself. However, upon his arrival at the hospital, medical professionals observed that the boy suffered from a traumatic brain injury and a punctured lung—injuries that the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed could not have been self-inflicted.

The investigation into the couple’s actions revealed disturbing disciplinary practices. Authorities uncovered that the boy was subjected to severe physical punishment by both Franklin and Cheyenne, including beatings with a belt or hand and being forced to endure long periods of physical exercise. Prosecutors noted that Cheyenne had expressed frustration with Justin’s behavior to her husband.

Further damning evidence was discovered on the Elmores’ phones, including several photographs showcasing Justin with bruises and other visible injuries, painting a grim picture of the young boy’s suffering.

Justin’s birth mother, Miranda McBride, had tried to report the alleged abuse of her son to Indiana authorities, but they reportedly told her that “they could do nothing because they didn’t find any bruises.”

Cheyenne Elmore pleaded not guilty to her murder charge. She is scheduled to go on trial in February 2026 and is due in court on Dec. 18.

WNDU reported that while Franklin Elmore and his attorney say they reached a blanket plea agreement with prosecutors, Elkhart County Prosecutor Vicki Becker told the station that she had not made any plea agreements with Franklin Elmore. Online records reportedly show that his trial was canceled and he is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 25.
