A young woman from Wyoming, aged 22, is now facing several serious charges after allegedly attacking her husband, aged 24, with a knife on two occasions in one night following a tequila-fueled evening.
Elizabeth Deore was apprehended last month and charged with dual counts of felonious restraint, alongside aggravated assault and a misdemeanor for domestic violence. The incident took place in their shared residence in Wright, a quaint town roughly 200 miles north of Cheyenne. According to the Gillette News Record, deputies from the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic disturbance call at approximately 11:39 p.m. on October 15. The caller reported that Deore was pursuing her husband around their home, brandishing a knife.
A male caller informed the dispatcher that three minutes after the call, Deore was still in possession of the knife and had cornered her husband against a wall, striking him repeatedly with her free hand, as detailed by the local news site County 17.
According to the caller, eight minutes after the first call, Deore was heard shouting, “You’ll be f—ing dead.”
When deputies arrived, they reportedly found the husband in the living room, seemingly unharmed, with a kitchen knife lying on the floor nearby. Deore was discovered in the bedroom, appearing intoxicated but not injured.
Neighbors who were present during the altercation told authorities that Deore had recently discovered her husband had been in contact with another woman from the area, according to the News Record.
The other couple reportedly said that they had all been hanging out together that evening and Deore had been drinking tequila. At some point, they said she went into a “rage” and sent her husband out of the house with the other man. She then reportedly cut up her husband’s ID cards before dousing his clothing in bleach.
When the husband returned, their fight continued to escalate until Deore allegedly grabbed a fillet knife and chased her husband around, slashing with the knife while threatening to kill him.
When her husband locked himself in the bathroom, Deore allegedly responded by yelling, “I’m going to kill you motherf—er,” and stabbing the door until she bent the fillet knife. That’s when the neighbors said Deore went back to the kitchen and picked up a butcher’s knife, which she allegedly used to chase her husband around after he exited the bathroom.
The altercation reportedly ended when Deore fell to the floor. Her husband said she was “overheating” and he brought her to the bathroom and put her in a cold shower. She was later taken to the hospital where medical personnel said she likely had suffered an epileptic seizure due to her body temperature.
After being medically cleared, Deore was placed under arrest and processed at the Campbell County Detention Center.
Inside the home, investigators reportedly noted that sections of the bathroom door had been repeatedly slashed and stabbed with what appeared to be a knife.
Despite the allegations against Deore, her husband reportedly wrote a letter to the court claiming that she did nothing wrong and the witnesses were not even inside of the home during the alleged attack.
“She is an amazing mother and a better wife,” he wrote, the News Record reported. “She might [have] a short fuse but she has never done anything like this before.”
It was not immediately clear if Deore was still in detention or when she was scheduled to appear in court again.
