A former Amvets employee in Bristol, Virginia, is facing felony embezzlement charges following the discovery of significant financial discrepancies amounting to $145,000.

Amvets authorities reported the substantial financial shortfall from the store’s accounts, prompting an extensive investigation that spanned four months.

According to the Bristol, Virginia, Police Department, Alona Arnold, a 40-year-old resident of Washington County, Virginia, served as a district manager for Amvets from 2022 to 2025. During this time, Arnold is alleged to have misappropriated the missing funds.

Police apprehended Arnold at her residence on Thursday. She was then taken to the Abingdon Facility of the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail. After the arrest, she was released on a $1,500 secured bond.
