An inquiry has been initiated into the New South Wales Police following a tragic incident where one man died and another was left critically injured after an alleged brawl.

A 31-year-old man, suffering from severe head injuries, was brought to Lismore Base Hospital in northern New South Wales on Friday morning. The person who transported him has not been identified.

Subsequently, the injured man was flown to Gold Coast University Hospital, where he is currently in a serious condition.

Later on the same morning, police discovered the body of a 25-year-old man on a walking path near Fischer Street in Goonellabah, Lismore.

Authorities suspect that both individuals were part of a brawl that took place at Clifford Park earlier that day, involving approximately 15 to 20 people.

A critical incident investigation has been launched to scrutinize the police response to the initial altercation.
