Inset: Suniya Jenkins (WJBK/YouTube). Background: The Kids Foot Locker at Southland mall in Michigan where Suniya Jenkins was allegedly stabbed by a 40-year-old woman after exchanging words with her over an attempted purchase (WJBK/YouTube).
Suniya Jenkins, 19, recounted the chaotic scene to local Fox affiliate WJBK. She was observing the woman’s escalating anger at the Southland Center mall in Taylor before unexpectedly becoming a victim of the stabbing.
Jenkins clarified that she was not responsible for the offending comment calling the woman a “broke b—.” She explained that she merely entered the store to investigate the disturbance after overhearing it.
“It’s unfair that I got stabbed,” Jenkins expressed to WJBK, describing how the woman allegedly used a kitchen knife to inflict wounds on her neck, stomach, and thigh. “I was stabbed four times and am currently suffering from a punctured lung.”
Jenkins recounted that the suspect, who was accompanied by children, was shouting at bystanders near the Foot Locker register when she turned on the teen.
Jenkins alleges that the woman was screaming at people near the Foot Locker register when she began snapping at the teen. She says the woman had children with her.
“As the argument got verbal, she put her hand in her purse and proceeded to tell me she was going to shoot me,” Jenkins alleged. “I did not see or even know I was stabbed until after the physical altercation.”
Police told WJBK that the female suspect was arrested and is expected to be charged.
“I am going to press charges, but it does sadden me because I don”t want her to be taken away from her children, I truly don’t,” Jenkins said.
Police did not respond to Law&Crime’s request for comment. Jenkins is expected to make a full recovery.
