Footy WAG reveals the awful reason she wanted to hire a private investigator - and the horrible after-effects of attack that ruined her wedding

An AFL player’s wife, who faced hurtful comments about her appearance on her wedding day, is determined to keep battling against online harassment. She even considered employing a private investigator to track down and publicly identify the offenders.

Chloe Pink, married to North Melbourne’s Toby Pink, endured a barrage of derogatory comments on her looks after their wedding photos went public in March.

The online critics made disparaging remarks about her figure, with one particularly harsh comment questioning if her husband had married an NRL player due to her physique.

Chloe shared that she was in tears for three consecutive days as the negative comments, mostly from older men, continued to pour in, focusing on her body rather than her joyous occasion.

These vicious attacks persisted during the couple’s honeymoon, further dampening their celebration.

“I posted a video of us enjoying the beach, and someone cruelly remarked, ‘Finally, the whale is in her natural habitat,'” Chloe recounted.

Now, Pink has opened up on the Tell Me More podcast with Olivia Molly Rogers and revealed just how badly the comments impacted her – and the drastic action she wanted to take.

‘I was in the deepest, darkest state of mind,’ she said.

‘I couldn’t comprehend the truth. There were hundreds of negative trolling comments about the way that I looked and about my body shape.

‘I wanted to hire a private investigator and I wanted to find out exactly who every single person was.’

The cruel onslaught of hateful taunts deeply impacted Pink, effectively ruining her memories of her wedding day.

She said that every time she looked at images of the happy occasion, she was reminded of the hate rather than her love for her husband.

Influencer Stephanie Claire-Smith reached out after hearing Chloe’s story and offered to cover the cost of a new photo shoot.

Chloe loved the idea, calling it a chance to reclaim her wedding memories and feel proud again.

The couple wore the same outfits, and Chloe styled her hair the same way, saying she didn’t want to change how she looked – only how she felt when she saw those photos.

It was the beginning of a journey for Pink, who has now vowed she will not suffer in silence and will continue to call out trolls who body-shame women on the internet.

‘I’ve done a full 360 flip and I was like, nup, this is not OK. We need to talk about it more,’ she said.

‘I shouldn’t have to hide myself away. And if anyone tells me to stop talking about it, I’m not going to.’

Pink said it took every bit of courage she had to allow the podcast to go ahead and be published, with her support network including her husband finally convincing her to share her story.

She also admitted that the after-effects of the attacks on her appearance are still lingering.

‘I’ll be honest, it took a lot of convincing from my husband and friends to post the snippet from my chat with Olivia Molly Rogers,’ she posted to Instagram.

‘I really didn’t like the camera angle or how my body looked, but then I caught myself – everything I talk about and believe in completely contradicts those thoughts.

‘It’s not about how my body looks [that’s so irrelevant]. It’s about the message I’m sharing and the conversation itself.

‘So a little reminder: when you’re feeling insecure about your appearance, remember that your looks, body shape, and size are the least interesting things about you.’

Pink’s courage and defiance in the face of hundreds of cruel comments has garnered a wave of support on social media, with a legion of new followers also calling out trolls for body shaming.

‘When did people forget to be kind? All I saw was two people declaring their love and being happy. I hope they have many happy years together,’ one commented.

‘It’s absolutely disgraceful the way she was treated just because she’s not a size 0! Chloe is stunning and from all the interviews she’s had, she appears to have a kind heart and soul too,’ another added.

Yet another commented: ‘People need to take a good look around their own backyard before passing judgement on someone else. How shallow can you be and it speaks volumes about a person who does that and none of it good either.’

The pair grew up together in Millicent, South Australia, and their friendship turned romantic in 2017 when Toby moved away to pursue his football career.

‘We grew up in a small country town and so we have known each other for our whole lives. All we’ve known is just knowing each other,’ Pink said.

And despite all the torrid weeks and months after their wedding, the couple are still going strong.

‘It’s very healthy, it’s mutual and very nurturing actually. We are best friends and I think that comes before anything,’ Pink said.

‘I feel like this is where I’m meant to be, everything happens for a reason and it happened to me because I am the right person to advocate for it [body positivity],’ she says.

‘Difficult roads lead to beautiful destinations and younger me would be so proud.’
