Police surrounding a student armed with a knife at North Sydney Boys High.

A tense situation unfolded at a high school in Sydney’s north when a student, reportedly armed with a knife, was subdued with a Taser and subsequently arrested by police. The incident occurred at North Sydney Boys High School today around 12:30 PM, following what authorities described as an altercation between two students within a classroom.

According to police reports, the student involved in the altercation exited the classroom brandishing a knife, prompting immediate action from school officials and law enforcement. In response to the potential threat, the school initiated a lockdown, lasting approximately one hour, as officers conducted a thorough search for the teenager.

Witnesses described the situation as alarming, with one individual telling 9News, “It was pretty confronting to be honest, because of the size of the knife.” The gravity of the situation was palpable as authorities worked swiftly to ensure the safety of students and staff.

After locating the student, police utilized a Taser to safely detain him. He was then promptly arrested and taken to a hospital for further evaluation. The lockdown was lifted around 1:30 PM, restoring a sense of normalcy to the school community.

“It was pretty confronting to be honest, because of the size of the knife,” a witness told 9News.

The boy was taken to hospital, and the lockdown lifted about 1.30pm.

The NSW Department of Education said the lockdown had been used “as a precaution”.

“All students and staff are safe, and students resumed classes after 1.30pm,” a spokesperson said.
