Police investigating Bega stabbing death scour wetlands

In a bid to unravel the mystery surrounding a tragic stabbing incident in Bega, police have expanded their investigation to include a search of nearby wetland areas. The fatal incident, which unfolded on the New South Wales South Coast, has left the community on edge as authorities continue their pursuit of the suspects involved.

The grim discovery occurred on October 6, when a 43-year-old man was found fatally wounded in a park on East Street, Bega. Responding to distress calls reporting concerns for an individual’s welfare, first responders arrived at the scene around 2 a.m. Despite the paramedics’ urgent efforts, the man’s injuries proved too severe, resulting in his untimely death at the location.

In the wake of the incident, a comprehensive homicide investigation was swiftly initiated. Adding to the complexity of the case, another victim, a 45-year-old man, was found with stab wounds. He was transported to South East Regional Hospital and is currently in stable condition.

As authorities intensify their search for the culprits, the community remains vigilant, hoping for closure and justice for the victims of this harrowing event.

A homicide investigation was launched. 

A second man, aged 45 and also suffering stab wounds, was taken to South East Regional Hospital in a stable condition.

He has since been released from hospital.

As a part of the investigation, police seized a knife and electronic devices during a search of a unit in Bega on October 30.

No one was home at the time.

Yesterday, South Coast Police District officers and the State Emergency Service conducted a search in and around the Glebe Wetlands on East Street, Bega, and the surrounding area.

The aim of the search was to locate a knife, believed to be a small double-edged dagger, that may have been discarded after the alleged stabbing, police said.
