An incident in Florida has landed a woman in jail after a domestic dispute allegedly turned violent over a small financial transaction. Danielle Banks, 34, faces charges of aggravated battery and resisting arrest following an altercation with her boyfriend, reportedly sparked by a $5 payment he made to another woman using a mobile app.

Currently being held on a $75,000 bond, Banks was reportedly going through her boyfriend’s phone when she discovered the transaction, which involved a “female friend.” The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, referencing the arrest report, disclosed that this discovery led to Banks confronting her boyfriend in a fit of anger.

As the situation heated up, Banks allegedly hurled derogatory insults at him and proceeded to physically assault him. According to the arrest report, she struck her boyfriend multiple times in the mouth, causing visible injuries and leaving his shirt torn and bloodstained. Her fury allegedly escalated further when she retrieved a kitchen knife and threw it at him, cutting his face.

After the incident, Banks reportedly fled their shared home in Marathon, hopping into her car. Her boyfriend promptly called 911, reporting that she had “stabbed him in the face” before fleeing the scene. A U.S. Border Patrol agent in the vicinity started trailing her in an unmarked vehicle, eventually stopping her at an apartment complex a short distance away.

As deputies converged on the location, they spotted Banks attempting to evade capture by ducking down inside her vehicle. However, her attempts to hide proved futile as law enforcement swiftly apprehended her. The dramatic series of events underscores the volatile nature of domestic disputes and the serious consequences they can entail.

By that time, according to the report, sheriff’s deputies were on the scene and spotted Banks. When Banks saw that deputies were on her tail, she “attempt[ed] to hide by ducking down inside the vehicle.”

Banks was detained. While she was being questioned by police, she claimed that she “threw a plate into the sink,” and a “shard” from the broken plate must have been what cut her boyfriend. She soon invoked her right to remain silent.

According to the arrest report, Banks’ boyfriend declined to provide a written statement and did not want deputies to enter the home to get the knife because “the property did not belong to him.” He was treated at the scene by first responders. Police said that he contacted his brother to pick him up, and he packed up his belongings and left.

Banks was charged with aggravated battery and resisting arrest without violence, a misdemeanor. She was booked into the Monroe County Jail, where her bond was listed at $75,000. Her arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 21.
