A source revealed that surveillance footage shows a resemblance in appearance, leading detectives to seek higher-quality video footage to confirm if it is indeed the same suspect.

The Chicago police department reported that on Monday night at around 9:25 p.m., a 45-year-old man engaged in a heated argument with a 26-year-old woman aboard the CTA. The confrontation escalated when the man allegedly doused the woman with a liquid substance and ignited it using a lighter.

Police said the man ran away the train stopped at Clark and Lake. However, the situation has left other CTA riders fearful when riding.

“That’s an absolutely horrible thing to have happened on the L. But I have to say, the past three or four years, the L has not been a pleasant experience, and it’s a dangerous experience, at worst,” said CTA rider Tarick Loutf.

The transit agency saying in a statement, “The CTA has been working closely with the Chicago Police Department and the Public Transportation Unit detectives embedded at the Strategic Decision Support Center dedicated to CTA to support their investigation, which has now led to the arrest of a person of interest.”

As for the 26-year old victim in this case remains, we’re told she remains in critical condition at Stroger Hospital.
