Coroner to report on 'terrorist' slaying of young police officers at Wieambilla

The long-awaited coroner’s report on the Wieambilla shootings, a tragic event labeled a terrorist attack that resulted in six deaths, including those of two police officers, is set to be disclosed.

Brothers Nathaniel, 46, and Gareth Train, 47, orchestrated an ambush with high-powered rifles, fatally shooting Constables Matthew Arnold, 26, and Rachel McCrow, 29. This incident took place on December 12, 2022, at a secluded property in Wieambilla, located west of Brisbane.

Alongside Gareth and his brother’s wife, Stacey Train, 45, Nathaniel also shot and killed neighbor Alan Dare, 58, shortly after the attack on the officers.

Constables Arnold and McCrow were on the property with their colleagues, Constables Randall Kirk and Keely Brough, acting on behalf of NSW police at the time of the assault.

Constables Kirk and Brough managed to narrowly escape the deadly attack staged by the Train brothers.

Nathaniel Train had been reported missing from his position as a primary school principal in northern New South Wales prior to the tragic events.

He was also subject to an arrest warrant in Queensland after abandoning some of his firearms while illegally crossing the border during COVID-19 lockdowns.

Speaking on the final day of the inquest, Const Arnold’s mother Sue said her family and the McCrows still had critical unanswered questions.
