In a tragic turn of events, a young man from Ohio is at the center of a horrifying crime that has left a community reeling. The 24-year-old, Maxwell Anatra, faces murder charges following the deaths of his parents in their Crestline home. This small village, nestled between Cleveland and Columbus, now grapples with the loss of two of its residents, 61-year-old Lisa Anatra and 63-year-old Matthew Anatra.

The chain of events began when concerns arose at Lisa Anatra’s workplace. A colleague, alarmed by her unexplained absence and a disturbing sight reported at her residence, alerted authorities. This prompted a welfare check by officers from the Crestline Police Department and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival at the Anatra residence on North Henry Street, law enforcement made a grim discovery. Lisa Anatra was found lifeless inside the home, while her husband, Matthew Anatra, was discovered deceased in the detached garage. The community was left in shock, with the manner of their deaths yet to be publicly revealed by investigators.

Attention quickly turned to their son, Maxwell. Family members recounted seeing him at the house the previous evening, but communication with him had since ceased. As the investigation unfolded, authorities learned that Maxwell had made his way to Michigan on the day of the discovery and suspected he was attempting to cross into Canada.

As the investigation continues, the tragic loss of Lisa and Matthew Anatra leaves a profound impact on their family and the Crestline community. The pursuit of justice is now underway, as all await further details and clarity on this heartbreaking case.

Family members of the couple told authorities that their son, Maxwell Anatra, had been at the home the night before, but they hadn’t been able to speak with him. According to deputies, investigators learned that he had been in Michigan earlier on Wednesday “and might be trying to leave the country.”

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office secured a warrant for his arrest for murder and coordinated with the Department of Homeland Security to make sure he was apprehended. At about 5:30 p.m., deputies learned that he had indeed been detained by Canadian officials after crossing the border.

As of Friday, the suspect was still listed as being held in St. Clair County, Michigan. He is expected to be transported roughly 230 miles back south to northern Ohio.
