In Miami, Florida, a man is facing charges after allegedly pushing a woman off a train platform, resulting in her death. The act appeared to have no clear motive.
Jorge Gomez, 45, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, according to records from the Miami-Dade County jail. He was taken into custody on Thursday, although the tragic event reportedly took place several days earlier.
On Nov. 14, at about 12:30 p.m., Gomez was at the Dadeland North Metrorail Station. So was 32-year-old Kanisa Love. At some point, Gomez walked up to Love, who was backing away from him, and unprovoked, he shoved her to the ground, according to an arrest report reviewed by local outlet WPLG.
During a court appearance on Friday, a prosecutor stated, “He pushed the victim off the Metrorail platform resulting in her death,” as reported by Miami’s NBC affiliate WTVJ.
Judge Mindy Glazer commented, “He killed a 32-year-old lady standing on a Metrorail station, pushed her off. You see it all.”
Footage from the scene reveals the platform’s significant height, elevated several stories above the ground.
Although the incident occurred just after noon, authorities reportedly only arrived at the scene the following morning. They concluded that the woman died from blunt force trauma to her head.
During Gomez’s Friday court appearance, he was ordered to be held without bond.
The defendant reportedly has an arrest record dating back to 2014.
