Luis Oscar Ocanto, aged 38, faces allegations of murdering his former partner in North Charleston, coinciding with his arrest for driving a stolen vehicle in Kingsland, officials report.
KINGSLAND, Ga. — Authorities in Southeast Georgia apprehended the suspect in a South Carolina murder case on Monday morning during a traffic stop, as confirmed by the Kingsland Police Department.
The incident began when officers pulled over a speeding vehicle on I-95 South. Upon investigation, they discovered the car was stolen. The 2021 Kia Sorento, driven by Luis Oscar Ocanto, had been reported stolen from North Charleston, South Carolina.
After detaining Ocanto, Kingsland Police learned from the North Charleston Police Department that he was a suspect in the murder of his ex-girlfriend earlier that day. According to NCPD, Ocanto allegedly committed the murder at her residence before escaping in her vehicle.
Inside the car, police found several items linked to the woman and the ongoing homicide investigation.
Currently, Ocanto is held in Camden County on charges related to the stolen vehicle, with additional charges from North Charleston anticipated.
