Authorities have initiated an extensive manhunt for three suspects accused of breaking into a residence in Sydney’s western suburbs and shooting a 26-year-old man in the leg.
Emergency responders were dispatched to a location on Stafford Street in Penrith around 11:45 p.m. last night.
According to reports from 9News, the shooting followed a confrontation involving the victim.
Nearby surveillance footage on Darby Street captured the trio fleeing through residential areas and along the road.
“We believe we disrupted their attempt to return to their SUV, leading them to flee on foot,” explained NSW Police detective superintendent Trent King.
Details about the suspects are limited, but they are described as three large males dressed in dark clothing.
Police worked into the early hours of this morning trying to locate the men but they were unable to be found.
A major crime scene has been established at the complex of townhouses.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the men to come forward.
