Her artistic journey continued with studies at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Career

Ebersole’s Broadway journey began in 1975 with “Angel Street,” shortly after which she made her television debut on ABC’s soap opera “Ryan’s Hope.” In 1980, she took on the role of Lily Darnell for 11 episodes. Her stint on “Saturday Night Live” saw her co-anchoring “Weekend Update” with Brian Doyle-Murray. Her cinematic debut in “Tootsie” (1982) was a commercial hit, grossing $241 million on a $22 million budget, and later became part of the National Film Registry for its cultural significance. Following this, “Amadeus” (1984) continued her success, earning an Academy Award for Best Picture. Ebersole’s other notable roles included Maxie McDermott on “One Life to Live,” where her performance was Emmy-nominated, and she appeared in “Thief of Hearts” (1984) and had a recurring role on “Valerie” (1986) and “The Cavanaughs” (1986–1989).
