In response to a surge in vehicle thefts leading to subsequent criminal activities, authorities initiated Operation Enduro on November 12. This initiative aims to address the growing issue of stolen vehicles, particularly scooters, being utilized in further illegal endeavors.
As a consequence of this operation, legal proceedings are underway for 14 individuals. Among them is a 16-year-old boy implicated in the theft of a delivery driver’s scooter. This incident occurred at the junction of Copeland and Parker Street in Penrith on a Monday afternoon.
According to police reports, the theft involved two men who allegedly forced the driver off his scooter before making off with the vehicle. Shortly after this incident, police on patrol in Cranebrook observed a group of mopeds navigating Sherringham Road. This pursuit ended when one of the riders collided with a traffic island.
The rider involved in the crash, a 16-year-old, has been charged with multiple offenses. He is scheduled to appear in court on December 15, as the legal process continues to unfold. The operation underscores a concerted effort by law enforcement to curb vehicle-related crimes in the region.
A short time later, police patrolling in Cranebrook saw a group of mopeds travelling on Sherringham Road, before one rider crashed into a traffic island.
The rider, a 16-year-old boy, was charged with multiple offences and will next appear in court on December 15.
In another incident, at about 3.30am yesterday morning, police in Plumpton saw a moped travelling next to a black Mercedes sedan.
They tried to stop both vehicles, but the drivers allegedly did not comply, and a pursuit began.
It continued through Mount Druitt, Dharruk, Emerton, Whalan, and Bidwill, before eventually stopping on the Western Collector Road.
A 16-year-old boy and two 15-year-old boys were arrested.
The 16-year-old was charged with multiple offences including dangerous driving, unlicensed driving, and assaulting police.
The 15-year-olds were charged with travelling in a stolen vehicle.
They were all refused bail and appeared in court yesterday.
Following further inquiries, at about 10am yesterday, police carried out two search warrants at units on Magnolia Street North in St Marys, and on Haynes Street in Penrith.
At the St Marys address, police allegedly seized a moped.
Police say during the course of Enduro, 11 allegedly stolen mopeds have been recovered, while 14 boys and men aged 13 to 22 remain before the courts.
