An Arizona woman, who is accused of attempting to kill her boyfriend by cutting his throat, reportedly expressed to officers, “I hope he’s dead,” upon their arrival to detain her, as indicated by court documents disclosed on Monday.
The woman, identified as 52-year-old Tamala Rudeseal, referred to the event as her “Independence Day” after she attacked the man on Thanksgiving, according to a report by local NBC station KPNX. Despite the severe nature of the assault, the victim survived and was hospitalized.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. in the couple’s residence located in Mesa, a suburb on the eastern side of Phoenix. Police reports indicate that Rudeseal waited until her boyfriend was asleep before she allegedly attacked him. Following the assault, she dialed 911 to admit to the crime, informing the dispatcher about her actions.
Court records reveal more details of Rudeseal’s confession, including a moment when she responded, “Yes. God, I hope he’s dead,” when officers questioned her involvement. This was reported by local CBS affiliate KPHO.
During the 911 call, Rudeseal was recorded saying, “I’m sick of what you do to me, today is Independence Day.” She also acknowledged her intention to kill, stating, “Yes, I did just try to murder you,” according to KPNX.
Investigators noted that the attack left the victim with a cut stretching from his left ear to the middle of his neck. Rudeseal allegedly told authorities she had planned to cut the other side of his neck and then stab him in the heart, as reported by KPHO.
The man told police the two had been together for 11 years. He said Rudeseal often became aggravated during the holidays, and that they had fought earlier in the day.
Rudeseal remained behind bars Tuesday on $1 million bail after being charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.
