Yesterday afternoon, police descended upon Keysborough Secondary College, located in the southeastern part of the city, responding to an incident involving a 43-year-old man who had been stabbed.
The individual injured in the attack was none other than the school’s principal, Aaron Sykes. Fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening, and after receiving medical attention at the hospital, he has been discharged.
Authorities apprehended a male teacher at the scene who also sustained a minor injury. The 37-year-old educator from Mulgrave was taken to the hospital, where he remained under police supervision.
The teacher now faces serious legal charges, including two counts of unlawful assault, one count of intentionally causing injury, recklessly engaging in conduct that endangers a person with serious injury, and assault with a weapon. He is scheduled to make an appearance in Dandenong Magistrates’ Court today.
In the wake of this troubling event, the school reached out to parents with a letter reassuring them of Principal Sykes’ well-being, mentioning that he is “recovering well and in good spirits.”
In a letter sent to parents, the school said Sykes was “recovering well and is in good spirits”.
The school also assured parents that no student was involved in the incident.
”Any form of violence within our school is entirely unacceptable. We are proud of the safe and supportive culture that is the norm at our school,” the note read.
“We want to assure you that the health and safety of our students and staff is always our highest priority.”
The school has reopened today.
An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
