Scott Shriner, the bassist for Weezer, is facing a significant life change as his wife has filed for divorce, just a few months following a dramatic incident where she was shot at by police and subsequently charged with attempted murder.
On Tuesday, Jillian Shriner submitted legal papers citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split, according to TMZ.
In her filing, Jillian also requested shared legal and physical custody of their two children, who are now 17 and 13, both of whom they adopted together.
She is also asking for spousal support but has reportedly asked the court to prevent Scott, who is 60, from receiving any support from her.
Details regarding a separation date or a prenuptial agreement remain undisclosed.
The divorce filing comes after a tumultuous incident in April when Jillian was involved in a chaotic police chase in Los Angeles, during which she was shot by officers.
The LAPD was responding to a hit-and-run on the freeway near Eagle Rock neighborhood after three suspects fled the scene and headed toward a residential neighborhood.
The police quickly barricaded off the area, however, a woman, later identified as Jillian, exited her home with a handgun.
She was told several times by law enforcement to drop her weapon but refused, pointing her gun toward police. Cops subsequently shot her and she ran into her home.
Jillian was taken into custody and booked for attempted murder, then taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated for her non-life-threating wounds.
A month prior, Jillian revealed that she had been diagnosed with cancer.
“Yes, I have a little bit of the C word yâall. I know a lot of us do,” she shared on social media at the time.
âIâm here to thank the incredible oncology team here, who pulled me through a complicated operation without a hitch,â she added. âI am always so grateful for every second of the compassionate and excellent medical care I receive in my life.â
Jillian and the rocker tied the knot in 2005.
