On Tuesday evening, emergency responders rushed to a park in Beenleigh, located in Brisbane’s southern region, following reports of a man being shot in the chest.
The victim, a 35-year-old resident of Bahrs Scrub, was pronounced dead at the scene, initiating an urgent search for the suspect involved in the shooting.
Witnesses noted that a white Kia Stonic quickly left the scene after the incident. This vehicle had been reported stolen from a home in Oxenford on November 24th during a burglary.
Authorities later spotted the vehicle traveling down Kumbari Avenue in Labrador. Using a specialized device, police successfully deflated the car’s tires, bringing it to a halt around 1:30 a.m. the following day.
The driver, a 22-year-old man from Beenleigh, attempted to escape on foot into nearby woods but was eventually located by officers hiding underwater.
During the search, law enforcement allegedly recovered a firearm, and they plan to present evidence that the suspect was in possession of ammunition.
Police have charged him with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of weapon, possessing explosives, and receiving tainted property.
He is scheduled to appear at Beenleigh Magistrates Court today.
Police say investigations into the death of the 34-year-old man are continuing.
