Authorities detained a 20-year-old individual on Monday near Buffalo, New York, in connection with a high-profile case.

In WASHINGTON, the Buffalo office of the U.S. Marshals confirmed the arrest of a person of interest tied to the shooting of Kris Boyd, a player for the New York Jets.

The young man, hailing from the Bronx, turned himself in to authorities in Amherst, a suburb located to the east of Buffalo. This development comes several weeks after the New York Police Department circulated images of the suspect they were seeking.

Amherst is situated nearly 400 miles away from New York City, the site of the November 16 shooting, requiring a journey of about six hours by car.

Authorities have yet to release the individual’s identity, but it is anticipated that they will be transferred back to New York City to face potential charges. The coordinated effort to apprehend this person involved both the U.S. Marshals Service and the NYPD, according to sources reported by NBC News.

Kris Boyd, a 29-year-old cornerback for the Jets, suffered a critical gunshot wound to the abdomen in midtown Manhattan just over three weeks ago.

Law enforcement sources told the New York Post the shooting happened outside Sei Less restaurant, halfway between Madison Square Garden and Times Square, after a dispute turned violent and a gunman fired two shots.

According to CBS News, the person of interest in custody has not yet been charged with a crime related to the shooting. He has four prior arrests, including for robbery.

Boyd is in his first season with the Jets after signing in free agency in March. He has spent the year on injured reserve. Drafted by Minnesota in the seventh round in 2019, he has also played for the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans.

On Nov. 19, three days after the shooting, Boyd shared an update regarding his health to his Instagram story.

“I’m coming along, starting to breathe on my own now,” Boyd wrote. “Sincerely appreciate everyone!”

He was later released from the hospital, but returned on Nov. 27 due to his “health issues.”

Last week, Boyd returned to the New York Jets practice facility and surprised his teammates at a special teams meeting, breaking it down at the end and later chatting with players and coaches.
