An officer with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Louisiana suffered a hand injury after being bitten by an undocumented immigrant resisting arrest, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported.

The incident, described by DHS as a “gross attack,” involved a man named Maximiliano Perez-Perez in Tullos, a town located in central Louisiana. Authorities shared a photo that allegedly shows the ICE officer’s hand bloodied from the encounter.

According to Homeland Security, during the arrest, Perez-Perez attempted to escape by pushing the officers. He resorted to biting, using his teeth as a weapon, which broke the skin and drew blood from an ICE officer’s hand.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated, “This criminal illegal alien is facing assault charges after viciously biting a law enforcement officer to try and avoid capture. Our DHS law enforcement personnel are seeing a 1,150% rise in assaults and an alarming 8,000% increase in death threats.”

McLaughlin further commented, “This incident highlights the daily challenges ICE officers encounter as they fulfill their duties to uphold the law. Many of these attacks, including biting and vehicle rammings, are influenced by sanctuary policies that embolden undocumented immigrants to resist arrest.”

DHS said Perez-Perez entered the United States at an unknown date and time and was not inspected or paroled by an immigration officer.

News of the arrest came on the same day ICE released an image showing a suspect accused of threatening federal agents being taken into custody by an officer from Homeland Security Investigations.

The agency said, “Threatening to assault, murder or interfere with a federal agent is a FELONY.”

“Logan Murfin of Tulsa, OK, has been charged with ten counts after posting on social media that federal agents need to be gunned down, shot & executed,” ICE wrote on X.

“Welcome to the find out stage, Logan,” it added.
