A Rhode Island woman, who has been arrested over 100 times, primarily for traffic violations, is reported to have fatally struck a Grammy-nominated musician while he was out walking his dogs.

On the morning of December 6, Hopkinton police responded to an incident where they found a dark SUV crashed into a telephone pole on Spring Street in Hope Valley.

Before colliding with the pole, the driver allegedly hit several objects and also struck a pedestrian walking his dogs.

The pedestrian, identified by CBS News as 70-year-old Roderick Macleod, was a Grammy-nominated musician. He was walking on the shoulder of the eastbound lane when he was hit.

Emergency services transported Macleod to Rhode Island Hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries.

Macleod gained recognition in the 1980s for his Grammy nomination with the band Roomful of Blues and was inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame in 2014, as reported by The Westerly Sun.

Police stated that Shannon N. Godbout, 41, “was traveling eastbound on Spring Street when she left her lane and struck several objects, including two telephone poles and the pedestrian walking his dogs.”

Godbout was found at the scene. Police also found “numerous illegal narcotics and packaging materials commonly associated with drug distribution” in Godbout’s possession. Godbout was taken for evaluation to Westerly Hospital.

Chief Carrier of the Hopkinton Police Department said that Godbout’s “criminal history includes over 100 arrests,” and he said that she “has received 40 traffic citations.”

Godard has been placed under arrest and is facing charges of driving to endanger, resulting in death and possession of narcotics, Schedule I/II, with intent to distribute, 3rd plus offense.
