In the wake of a tragic terrorist attack on Sydney’s Bondi Beach that claimed 15 lives, New South Wales Premier Chris Minns has called for tougher gun control measures.

FOX News published a video of Minns responding to a reporter who asked if gun control could be made more stringent.

When asked about the need for stricter gun laws, Minns responded, “The short answer is ‘yes.’”

He elaborated, saying, “This issue requires legislative action, which involves introducing a bill to parliament. To be frank, we need to make it more challenging to obtain these deadly weapons that serve no beneficial purpose in our community.”

Minns further questioned, “If you’re not a farmer or involved in agriculture, why should you have access to these powerful weapons that pose a threat to public safety and complicate the duties of New South Wales police?”

He did not specify whether the attackers, one of whom legally owned the firearms used, were involved in farming or agriculture. Additionally, he did not comment on the frequency of firearm misuse by those legitimately employed in agriculture.

Minns also did not address how making it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to obtain firearms for self-defense might affect their ability to protect themselves.

Minns also did not explain how making guns even harder for law-abiding citizens to acquire for self-defense will enable law-abiding citizens to better defend themselves.
