Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer, recounted to 9News his experience during a Hanukkah event, saying, “I was there with my family amidst a gathering of hundreds, including children, seniors, and families basking in the festivities.”

He described the scene as idyllic until chaos erupted: “Kids were playing at the festival, and suddenly, everything turned into turmoil. Gunfire broke out, and people were desperately seeking cover. It was utter mayhem.”

The man said he had lived in Israel for the last 13 years and had survived the October 7 attacks there in 2023. (Nine)

“We were clueless about the situation or the origin of the gunshots,” he added.

Having lived in Israel for 13 years, Ostrovsky mentioned that he had previously endured the attacks there on October 7, 2023.

He explained his recent move to Australia just two weeks prior, stating, “I came to collaborate with the Jewish community here, to combat antisemitism and oppose the relentless, violent hatred.”

Ostrovsky remained resolute, saying, “We’ve weathered worse, and we will overcome this too, and hold accountable those responsible for this atrocity.”

Ostrovsky said he saw one of the gunmen during the ordeal as people fell to the ground around him.

He said his only concern was for his wife and children, who he said had managed to escape.

“I saw at least one gunman … firing randomly and in all directions.

“I saw children fall to the floor, I saw elderly, I saw invalids, it was an absolute bloodbath.

“October 7, that’s the last time I saw this. I never thought I’d see this in Australia, not in my lifetime, on Bondi Beach of all places, this iconic place.”
