A New Zealand woman recently stunned listeners by revealing her greatest regret: turning down the man she now believes was her true love.

Her emotional revelation came during a call to The Edge Breakfast radio show, where hosts Dan Webby and Clinton Randell were visibly taken aback by her story.

During the call, she recounted a ten-year romance marked by fear, poor timing, and an unexpected, heart-wrenching twist.

“This is one of the most gut-wrenching stories I’ve ever heard,” Dan remarked, as the woman began sharing a moment that has haunted her for years.

She recounted an event from a decade ago, when she was at the airport ready to leave the country, and her former partner made a bold attempt to reconcile.

“He showed up at the airport just as I was about to leave to get engaged to someone else abroad,” she revealed to the radio hosts.

The presenters quickly grasped the gravity of the moment, asking if it was the man’s last chance to shoot his shot in front of everyone.

But instead of embracing the cinematic confession, she admitted that she panicked and ‘just ran’ away, leaving him standing alone at the airport.

A New Zealand woman has left radio hosts in disbelief after sharing what she described as the biggest regret of her life live on air by turning down the man she now believes was ‘the one’

The studio fell into stunned disbelief and were in awe of her ‘savage’ reaction to someone that was clearly trying to win her back before it was too late.

When Clint asked whether the overseas engagement worked out, the woman revealed it didn’t last – a detail that only deepened the emotional weight of her story.

‘Oh, so now he’s the one that got away?’ Clint asked, trying to join the dots in the story.

‘It’s my biggest regret in my life,’ she replied without hesitation, as she tried to hold back her tears – but the heartbreak didn’t stop there.

The woman explained that she returned to New Zealand 10 years later and learned the man she had rejected had since married someone else.

Then came the bombshell that left the presenters speechless.

‘He’d told his wife if I ever came back that he’d have to leave her because I was The One,’ she said.

When she finally reunited with him, fate delivered its cruellest blow.

‘I came back (into his life) and two months later, he died in an accident,’ she said.

Is it ever fair to tell your spouse someone else is “The One”?

As the caller spoke, she revealed a decade-long love story shaped by fear, bad timing and a devastating twist no one saw coming, which all started at an airport preparing to fly overseas to get engaged to someone else

‘Oh my God, this is one of the most gut-wrenching stories I’ve ever heard in my life,’ Dan said as he cautiously asked whether she had found love again since the tragedy.

‘I have now,’ she responded.

The emotional confession has since been shared to The Edge’s social media accounts, where it has sparked a wave of intense and divided reactions.

‘I was definitely on the edge of my seat,’ one listener wrote.

‘Was not expecting the reveal of his passing,’ another shared, along with a crying emoji.

‘OMG that’s so sad in so many different ways,’ one added.

However, many others were far less sympathetic with one commenting: ‘Imagine being the current ‘love of her life’ and hearing that the biggest regret she’s ever had was not marrying someone else.’

‘The only tragedy in this is the poor wife who spent years with a man who was pining for an ex,’ another echoed.

‘Who the F tells their wife they’ll divorce her if some girl he loved way back comes back? Sounds like karma to me,’ another shared in disbelief.

Still, for many listeners, the story struck a raw nerve and was a humbling reminder that one moment of fear, hesitation or bad timing can echo for years.
