Hundreds of lifesavers have united on the shore of Bondi Beach for a moment of silence, honouring the victims of Sunday’s terror attack.
The three-minute silence was organised by Bondi Surf Bathers’ Life Saving Club and North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club.
“We stand shoulder to shoulder to show we are a united group of surf lifesavers and lifeguards across the country,” Surf Life Saving Australia said in a statement.

Surf lifesavers are set to return to Bondi Beach this weekend in a poignant show of solidarity and remembrance. This gathering is not only to honor those who have tragically lost their lives but also to stand in support of the Jewish community affected by the recent attacks. In a powerful display of unity, lifesavers are encouraged to don their patrol uniforms and form a line along the shoreline, facing the ocean.

Organizers have requested that the event remain solemn, with no speeches to be made. The emphasis is on silence, allowing for a moment of reflection and respect for those who have perished, the brave individuals who risked their lives, and the tireless efforts of those who worked to save others. This moment of quiet contemplation aims to ensure that the memories of these events, and those affected, are never forgotten.

In response to the tragedy, the federal government has announced an additional $200,000 in funding for the Bondi and North Bondi Lifesaving Clubs. This financial support is intended to assist the clubs in returning to normal operations and to replenish essential equipment, such as first-aid supplies, ensuring they remain prepared for any future incidents.

Meanwhile the federal government announced $200,000 extra money for the Bondi and North Bondi Lifesaving Clubs.

The cash will help the clubs get back to normality and replenish equipment, including first-aid supplies.

“There were so many heroes at Bondi at the weekend during the deadly terrorist attack,” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said.

“This includes our lifesavers, who ran towards danger to look after their fellow Australians.

“We are proud to be a government that supports those in red and yellow as they prepare for the busiest time of the year.

“The Albanese Government stands alongside Surf Life Saving Australia, our lifesavers and all Australians right here at Bondi.”
