Five Charged, Including Former Guard, in Inmate’s Death Inside Texas Jail

A heartbreaking incident in Tennessee has resulted in the deaths of a married couple and left their adult son fighting for his life. This devastating event unfolded in the close-knit community of Lenox, casting a shadow over the holiday season.

The Dyer County Sheriff’s Office reports that 60-year-old Sherry Darlene Lydon allegedly shot her husband, William John Lydon Jr., while he was asleep in their home. The tragedy did not end there, as she is also accused of shooting their 24-year-old son before leaving the scene. The young man was swiftly airlifted to a regional trauma center, where he remains in critical condition, battling for survival.

Following the shooting, Sherry Lydon drove onto Interstate 155, traveling in the wrong direction. Authorities believe she intentionally crashed head-on into an 18-wheeler, in what they describe as an “apparent attempt to commit suicide.” The impact of the collision was fatal for Lydon, who succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Fortunately, the truck driver involved in the accident was not harmed, as reported by Action News 5.

In the aftermath of this tragic event, investigators have turned their attention to Lydon’s medical history, searching for clues that might shed light on her actions. Early findings suggest that she had recently undergone surgery and was suffering from severe night terrors, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. These factors are being considered as potential contributors to the grim sequence of events.

The community is left grappling with the shock and grief of this unimaginable tragedy, as they await further updates on the condition of the surviving son and the ongoing investigation.

Investigators are examining Lydon’s medical history as a potential contributing factor. Preliminary reports indicate she had recently undergone surgery and experienced severe night terrors, anxiety, and sleep disturbances.

Sheriff Jeff Box described the incident as “incredibly tragic” and stated that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The Dyer County Criminal Investigation Division is currently processing evidence and interviewing witnesses.

“This is an incredibly tragic situation that has affected our community deeply,” said Dyer County Sheriff Jeff Box.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lydon family during this difficult time, and we ask for your continued patience as we navigate this investigation.”
