A Canberra woman has been charged after being accused of biting a police officer on the leg.

Police were dispatched to a residence in Moncrieff, located in the northern part of the city, around 8:30 a.m. yesterday following reports of a commotion involving a 44-year-old woman and her partner.

Upon arrival, officers conversed with the couple, both of whom agreed in writing to maintain “the King’s Peace” for a duration of 24 hours.

Under Australian law, maintaining the King’s Peace is essentially an agreement to maintain public law and order.

However, within three hours, law enforcement returned to the address due to allegations of the woman exhibiting aggressive behavior.

Concluding that she had disturbed the peace, officers took the woman into custody.

During the arrest, the woman reportedly became hostile again, allegedly biting one of the officers on the leg.

Fortunately, the officer did not sustain any injuries from the alleged bite.

The woman was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and two counts of resisting a territory public official.

She was due to face the ACT Magistrates Court today.
