The legal troubles for comedian Russell Brand have intensified as British authorities have filed additional charges of rape and sexual assault against him. These new accusations add to the already existing charges he faces involving four other women.

The UK’s Crown Prosecution Service said the new charges – one count of rape and one of sexual assault – against Brand were in relation to two further women. The alleged offenses took place in 2009, the CPS said.

Earlier this year, the 50-year-old comedian was charged with two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault. These charges emerged after an extensive 18-month investigation, initiated following allegations from four women who claimed they were assaulted by Brand.

Prosecutors have identified the alleged offenses as occurring between 1999 and 2005. One incident reportedly took place in Bournemouth, a coastal town in England, while the other three are said to have occurred in London. Brand had entered a plea of not guilty to these charges during a court appearance in London earlier this year.

In light of the new charges, Brand is scheduled to appear in court again on January 20, 2026. Additionally, a trial is set for June next year, expected to span four to five weeks.

Known for his provocative stand-up comedy and past struggles with substance abuse, Brand has, in recent years, retreated from mainstream media. Instead, he has cultivated a substantial online presence, sharing content that blends wellness tips with conspiracy theories and religious discussions.

Upon the announcement of the initial charges in April, Brand expressed his eagerness to clear his name, stating that he looked forward to proving his innocence in court.

“I was a fool before I lived in the light of the Lord,” he said in a social media video.

“I was a drug addict, a sex addict, and an imbecile. But what I never was a rapist. I’ve never engaged in nonconsensual activity. I pray that you can see that by looking in my eyes.”

The Associated Press doesn’t name victims of alleged sexual violence, and British law protects their identity from the media for life.
