Frightening footage has captured the moment a man jumped from a car then was pursued and assaulted in Melbourne, before the attackers ran off.

Shortly after 10 p.m. on Monday, December 22, witnesses observed a man calling for assistance from a gray Toyota Yaris on McGregor Street in Pakenham.

The onlookers, who were documenting the unfolding incident, trailed the vehicle to Homestead Road in Berwick. There, the car decelerated, allowing a man to leap out in an attempt to flee.

Nevertheless, the vehicle halted, and three individuals emerged to assault the man.

The attackers seemed to be equipped with some type of weapon, with one observer noting that they were carrying machetes.

In response, the witnesses transported the injured man to a nearby parking area to wait for emergency responders.

According to Ambulance Victoria, advanced life support paramedics attended to a 23-year-old man who had sustained upper body injuries.

He was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Police said it’s believed the parties involved in the attack were known to each other.
