The family of a cyclist fatally struck in a hit-and-run in Sydney‘s north-east earlier this week released a statement today honouring the “ultimate family man”.

Craig Parkes was cherished as a father of four, a devoted foster parent, a grandfather to seven, a loving son, and a supportive brother.

The cyclist was struck by a vehicle at about 5am on Sunday on Spit Road in Mosman before he died in hospital.

“In true Parkesy spirit, Dad battled valiantly until his last moment. His final gesture was one of profound generosity; he gave all he could so that others might have a chance at life. He donated his liver, kidneys, and his heart of gold. He was always willing to give, and in the end, someone even received his heart.”

“Thanks to him, multiple individuals now have the gift of life. Somewhere, a stranger carries a piece of our dad — his heartbeat. He has always been our hero, and now, he is a hero to others as well.”

“Taken from us far too soon in a tragic accident, Dad has left behind a void that cannot be filled. His selflessness defined his life, always prioritizing others, and even in death, that legacy of generosity lives on.”

“We wish for Dad to be remembered for the love he shared, the lives he impacted, and for the remarkable man he was — selfless to the very end.”

“Rest in eternal peace, Dad.”
