Will Arnett reveals what inspired his new movie 'Is This Thing On?'

Will Arnett, the star of “Is This Thing On?”, reveals the inspiration for the comedy film from Searchlight Pictures.

In a newly released featurette, Arnett shares, “A mutual friend asked me if I knew John Bishop and relayed a story about him. Going through a divorce, he stumbled into the world of stand-up comedy.” The British comedian initially avoided paying a bar’s entry fee by signing up to perform, granting him free access.

In the film, Arnett takes on the role of Alex Novak. “He’s facing a pivotal moment in his life as his marriage with Tess, portrayed by my friend Laura Dern, unravels,” Arnett elaborates.

Laura Dern, who plays Tess Novak, discusses their characters’ struggles. “Both Alex and Tess find themselves trapped in lives they never anticipated, and Tess realizes that change is necessary,” she explains.

Director Bradley Cooper offers insight into the film’s themes, stating, “This movie explores how people grapple with their identities, ambitions, and relationships, as well as the new communities they form.”
