On Christmas Eve, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump took part in a festive tradition by chatting with children through the NORAD Santa Tracker hotline. The calls took place against the backdrop of a beautifully decorated Christmas tree at their Mar-a-Lago residence.
President Trump shared some lighthearted exchanges during the calls.
While speaking with 10-year-old Jennifer from Oklahoma and her younger sister, Trump assured them that they keep tabs on Santa’s global journey and confirmed his good character. “We’ve discovered that Santa is indeed a good person. He loves you and he loves Oklahoma, just like I do,” Trump assured. He also touched base with their mother, suggesting that Santa might bring Jennifer “the most beautiful dollhouse.”
In another call, Trump asked 8-year-old Emilia from Kansas about her Christmas wishes. After some thought, she simply stated, “Not coal.”
Trump, mindful of his efforts to support the energy sector, humorously responded, “You mean clean, beautiful coal!” He laughed heartily, though Emilia had her sights set on a Barbie instead. Trump assured her that a Barbie was likely on its way. She also expressed a desire for candy, to which Trump agreed, but added a gentle reminder, “Be healthy.”

“So we found out that Santa is good. Santa loves you. Santa loves Oklahoma, like I do,” the president replied. He checked with the mom and said he thought that Santa was going to bring her “the most beautiful doll house.”
He asked Emilia, 8, from Kansas, what she wanted. She thought a moment and said, “Not coal.”

Trump understood, but then thought he didn’t want to say anything bad about coal when he’s doing what he can to revitalize the energy industry to help drop prices. “You mean clean, beautiful coal!” he joked, breaking out into great laughter. But she wasn’t going for the coal; she wanted a Barbie, and he said he thought she would get that. She also put in a request for candy, and Trump encouraged that, but hastened to add, “Be healthy.”
Trump made one of the kids laugh in an exchange when the child said he wanted a Kindle. Trump responded that he must be a “high-IQ person.” The child giggled at that, as Trump said we needed more people like that.
