Update on tradie who flew to US to stop baby daughter being ADOPTED

An Australian father has expressed his emotional journey involving his baby daughter, who has become the focal point of a cross-border custody dispute with her mother from the United States. The situation arose after the romance between the parents unraveled.

Liv Pavlov and Sydney-based carpenter Dan Gaut welcomed their daughter, Ana Rose, in the United States. Their decision to have a child followed a serendipitous encounter at a shamanic retreat in California in 2023.

Pavlov, a life coach, reiki master, and tantric healer residing in Austin, Texas, asserted that they were ‘spiritually inspired to conceive a child together.’

The relationship took a dramatic turn when Pavlov, while pregnant, unexpectedly returned to the US. She rekindled a past relationship and intended to place their child up for adoption, leaving Gaut devastated.

Gaut’s story captured national attention when he traveled to the US to prevent the adoption. He succeeded in reuniting with Ana and eventually brought her back to Australia.

Initially, Pavlov consented to Ana being raised in Australia. However, the couple has since reached an agreement to share custody, allowing Ana to spend time in both countries.

But now the reality of co-parenting on separate continents appears to be hitting home for Mr Gaut, who last week shared his pain at having to say goodbye to Ana following a happy reunion in the lead-up to Christmas.

‘Feeling super alone today, these pics were taken a week ago, Ana is in America now and the house is empty,’ the carpenter wrote on Instagram.

‘These photos are a good reminder to flip the switch and appreciate everything I have to be grateful for in life. Not always easy but a good practice.’

Just days earlier, the devoted dad had posted a photo with Ana with the caption: ‘Pre Christmas Daddy Daughter time with this sweet little girl’.

Other photos showed his parents and Ana’s American mother Liv Pavlov taking Santa photos during a beach outing in Byron Bay, in northern New South Wales.

Aussies were quick to share their sympathies with the heartbroken dad.

‘Hang in there bud! Sure good to see you with her and getting holiday time, that’s all that matters!’ one person wrote.

‘That’s tough mate. It’s hard on parents sharing custody,’ a second wrote.

‘You are such an amazing dad, Ana is so blessed to have you as her daddy, she’s absolutely adorable,’ a third commented.

Ms Pavlov previously told Daily Mail that she had only floated the idea of adoption because the former couple could not agree on the future of their unborn child.

‘At the time we were not on the same page on how to effectively raise her once she arrived, so I suggested maybe giving her to a loving family would be a better option,’ she said at the time.

‘There were no formal enquiries with adoption agencies – and we never made an agreement for him to have sole custodial rights either.’

Ana Rose also visited her father for Christmas in 2024.

‘My heart is overflowing having my sweet lil angel come visit,’ he wrote.

Baby Ana, whose name was also described by her mother as Anata, meaning ‘forever’, was conceived after the couple had spent just 10 days together in person while living in a Sydney sharehouse.

‘The reality is, we didn’t really know each other,’ Ms Pavlov said.

‘And I came home just really feeling that I wasn’t supposed to be in Australia.

‘I was like, what am I doing here?’

Ms Pavlov told Daily Mail last year she still wants Mr Gaut to be a big part of Ana’s life and for the pair to share custody of their daughter in both the US and Australia.

‘This baby girl is so loved by both of her parents and both want to be in her life,’ she says. ‘I see a future with her spending time with both parents in the US and Australia.’
